ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of psychotherapy that combines acceptance strategies with commitment and behavioral change techniques to help individuals increase psychological flexibility.

The goal of ACT is not to eliminate difficult thoughts or feelings but to help people accept them as a normal part of life while committing to actions that align with their core values.

Key components of ACT include:

  1. Acceptance – Allowing thoughts and feelings to come and go without struggling against them.

  2. Cognitive Defusion – Learning to detach from unhelpful thoughts, seeing them as simply words or images.

  3. Being Present – Cultivating mindfulness and awareness of the present moment.

  4. Self-as-Context – Developing a sense of self that is separate from one’s thoughts, feelings, or experiences.

  5. Values Clarification – Identifying what truly matters to the individual.

  6. Committed Action – Taking concrete steps guided by personal values, even in the face of discomfort.

ACT is rooted in behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based approaches, making it effective for a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a key part of our approach. It focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and developing personal coping strategies.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthy coping strategies.

Originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan for treating borderline personality disorder (BPD), DBT has since been adapted for other mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The word "dialectical" refers to the synthesis of two opposing ideas—in DBT, this is the balance between acceptance (validating one’s experiences and emotions) and change (working to modify behaviors and thought patterns).

Core Components of DBT:

  1. Mindfulness – Increasing awareness of the present moment and accepting experiences without judgment.

  2. Distress Tolerance – Building skills to tolerate pain or crisis situations without resorting to harmful behaviors.

  3. Emotion Regulation – Learning to understand, manage, and change intense emotions that are causing problems.

  4. Interpersonal Effectiveness – Developing assertiveness and relationship skills to communicate needs effectively and maintain healthy boundaries.

DBT typically includes a combination of:

  • Individual therapy

  • Skills training groups

  • Phone coaching (to provide support between sessions)

  • Therapist consultation teams (to support therapists in delivering DBT effectively)

The overall goal of DBT is to help individuals build a life worth living by enhancing emotional and cognitive regulation.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps people heal from trauma, distressing memories, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—often through guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds—to help the brain reprocess difficult experiences and reduce their emotional impact.

Originally developed for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), EMDR is now widely used to address a range of issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, grief, phobias, and even chronic pain. Clients often find that EMDR allows them to move past emotional blocks and gain relief from symptoms that once felt overwhelming.

Key Facts About Getting Help:

  • Evidence-Based: EMDR is recognized by organizations like the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD.

  • Healing Without Reliving: EMDR allows clients to process painful experiences without having to talk about every detail. It’s a gentle yet powerful way to heal.

  • It Works Quickly: For many, EMDR can lead to faster relief than traditional therapy, though every person’s pace is unique.

  • Whole-Person Approach: EMDR helps connect past experiences to present symptoms, promoting lasting emotional healing and personal growth.

  • Safe and Supportive: A trained EMDR therapist will guide you through each step in a calm, structured, and supportive environment.

How EMDR Can Help You:
Whether you’re struggling with trauma, anxiety, or long-held negative beliefs, EMDR can help reduce emotional distress and empower you to move forward with greater clarity and confidence. You don’t have to stay stuck in the past—healing is possible, and help is here.

Grief and Loss Therapy

Grief and Loss

Grief is a natural response to loss, whether it’s the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a major life transition, or the loss of a job, identity, or sense of normalcy. Everyone experiences grief differently—some may feel deep sadness, others anger, numbness, guilt, or even relief. There is no “right” way to grieve, and healing does not follow a set timeline.

Grief and Loss Therapy provides a safe, supportive space to explore your emotions, honor your loss, and find a way to carry it forward with meaning and resilience. Therapy doesn’t erase the pain—it helps you move through it with compassion and care.

Key Facts About Getting Help:

  • Grief is Unique: Each person’s grief journey is personal. Therapy can help you make sense of your experience, no matter how it looks or how long it takes.

  • There’s No Timeline: While society may expect you to "move on," therapy recognizes that grief is ongoing and honors your process without judgment.

  • You Don’t Have to Go Through It Alone: Talking with a therapist provides space to be seen, heard, and supported in ways that friends and family may not always be able to offer.

  • Therapy Can Reduce Isolation: Grief can feel incredibly lonely. Therapy can help you reconnect—with others, and with yourself.

  • Healing Doesn’t Mean Forgetting: Therapy helps integrate your loss into your life story in a healthy, meaningful way.

How We Can Help:
In grief and loss therapy, you’ll be met with compassion and understanding. We work together at your pace to process your emotions, reduce feelings of overwhelm, and discover ways to cope and heal. Whether your loss is recent or long ago, you deserve support as you navigate your journey.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps you gently explore and heal the different “parts” within yourself—such as the inner critic, the protector, or the wounded child.
